A Few of the Top Fat Burning Foods

A Few of the Top Fat Burning Foods

Everyone has their list of top fat burning foods as part of a weight loss program, so we thought we would chip in with ours. All of these are common foods that we now perhaps eat on a regular basis, but obviously the way they are prepared and in what portions they are consumed will go far in determining how effective they will be. So here is a list of our 5 top fat burning foods:

1. Salmon. The overall health benefits of salmon are enormous, but it is very influential in helping reduce fat. The Omega3 fatty acids, vitamin D and selenium help to increase the influence of insulin by lowering blood sugar levels. Dense in nutrition and low in calories, it is high in the good kind of fat but low in saturated fats, so it makes a satisfying meal that can be prepared in a variety of ways. Fish should be at the top of everyone's diet (at least twice per week), and with the many benefits salmon has to offer it should be at the top of everyone's list when dining on fish.

2. Turkey, Chicken, and Pork. Of the three, turkey is probably the healthiest, as it is the leanest, but they all contain significant levels of Leucine, the amino acid found in the protein of lean meats. This stimulates your blood sugar and insulin levels, making you feel fuller and suppressing your appetite. Additionally, Leucine also increases the amount of glucose used by your muscles, which would otherwise be stored as fat. The only way to eat turkey and chicken for maximum health benefit is by cooking it from a raw state. Processed from packets will not produce nearly the same benefits, and with the additives may do more harm than good. Only seven ounces of turkey meat are enough to provide your body with its daily protein requirement. Pork is more controversial. It has been touted as the "other white meat", but that depends on where the pork is from on the animal, the leanest being the pork loin, and how it is prepared. From a health standpoint, the greasier it is, the less nutritious it is. Perhaps the best advice is to limit the amount you eat, but if it is prepared healthy it will provide some variety to your menu.

3. Negative Calorie Fruits and Vegetables. Negative calorie foods burn more calories during absorption into the system than what the food actually contains. Being rich in fiber and nutrients will fill you up and give a great energy boost. Eating them raw will give you more nutrients and enzymes than if they are cooked. Some of the top fruits are apples, bananas, blueberries, cherries, cranberries, grapefruit, grapes, oranges, peaches, pears, raspberries, strawberries, and pomegranate. Top vegetables on the list are asparagus, beetroot, broccoli, carrots, lemons, onions, green beans, squash, and turnips, to name just a few.

4. Negative Calorie Nuts. Nuts are filling and rich in protein, and are high in fat, but the unsaturated variety, which if eaten in portion-controlled amounts may aid in weight loss. By taking the place of more traditional protein sources, nuts can reduce the saturated fat and calories in your overall diet. Almonds have been touted as one of the best, as they have essential fatty acids that boost metabolism. But peanuts (really legumes) provide the most complete protein, Brazil nuts and cashews (technically seeds), as well as chestnuts, coconuts, hazelnuts, and walnuts are great as a part of your top fat burning foods.

5. Green Tea. There is now good evidence that green tea catechins are related to reductions in body fat. It causes carbohydrates to be released slowly, thus preventing sharp increases in blood-insulin levels, promoting fat burning. It has caffeine content, which has a thermogenic effect, but in green tea it is found to be far greater than in a comparable amount of pure caffeine.

Additionally to the 5 top fat-burning foods, and certainly underrated as a fat burner, is water. Water helps remove the workload from the liver, and if the liver spends less time breaking down chemicals and other waste, the more it can devote to burning fat. We hope that you will seriously consider all these fat-fighting foods, and by building them as the foundation to your diet you will soon see the pounds drop.
